Walleye fishing on leech lake has been up and down since opener. We started out with hot air temps and water temps in the mid 60s. Over the last several day we have had cold, wind and rain which has cooled the water down into the mid 50s. Fishing has been good, but not great. There are lots of fish just finding the right ones that are willing to bite is the key.
Walleyes on leech lake are using their typical spring locations, Large sand flats, main lake point or areas with scattered rock in 5-14 ft. A 1/8 or 1/4oz jig and Spot tail shiner from Full Stringer Bait and Tackle has been the ticket. Rainbows are also producing as well.
Later this week the weather is supposed to stabilize and temps are supposed to go up, so I think the holiday weekend could bring some excellent fishing. If your looking to get out fishing I still have some openings this month. Shoot me a message or give me a call!
