Leech Lake Walleyes: Walleyes on leech lake have slid out on to many of the humps spread across the lake. Fish are being found from 13-22 ft with the deeper fish being more cooperative during the middle of the day and shallower fish biting better in the mornings and evenings. A jig and spot tail shiner have still been working well, but there wont be much left for shiners in the bait shop now. It's the time of year where they could want something new everyday, so don't be afraid to try jigging a crawler or leech and even running spinners. The fish are very full on crayfish, so you have to work to get bites. Water temps on the main lake are around 65 degrees. If your struggling to get bites during the day, trolling raps at night in shallower water can also provide some quality fishing.
Smaller Area Lakes: Some of the smaller lakes around Leech have been providing very quality fishing with many walleyes being caught. Walleyes are being found in 13-20 ft on these smaller lakes often on the break lines of sandy flats or up against the weed lines. These fish have been eating similar things to leech lake, so having a little bit of everything in the boat is your best bet. The smaller lakes have also been providing quality panfish bites with bluegills up shallow spawning or completing their spawn. Water temps on most lakes are around the mid to upper 60s.
